With a view to address certain concerns raised by the U.S. before the WTO and to stave off potential challenges on the export promotion schemes, the Indian government has set-up an expert group to craft a WTO-compliant support scheme for exporters, draft set of schemes and announce the same for larger discussions among various stakeholders. In an effort to address genuine hardships faced by Indian exporters and to sustain India’s position in the global export market, the government is evaluating a scheme to compensate the exporters. This new scheme would be in the model of the ‘Rebate of State and Central Taxes and Levies’ (RoSCTL) scheme, that was made available to Garment exporters, early this year. Read more on the architecture of the scheme in our Cover Story
