Cover story on Union Budget 2019 – The Backdrop, Announcements and Implications

The maiden budget of Modi government 2.0, was presented in the Parliament by the Union Finance Minister Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman, on 05 July 2019.  The budget proposals were aimed at building an inclusive India, reflecting the government’s focus to move toward a digitally-forward, skilled, and sustainable nation. The proposed amendments, particularly in Customs law, reflect the governments overall objective of achieving higher domestic value addition through ‘Make in India’, reducing import dependence, protection to MSME sector, promoting clean energy, and curbing non-essential imports.
