26 August 2021

BDO India has won the trophy for Tax Innovator of the Year at the ITR Asia-Pacific Tax Awards 2021 which were presented in an online ceremony on 26 August 2021.

ITR Awards Research Team said of BDO’s win:

BDO India’s tax innovations in 2020 came about from their application of ever developing new technological solutions for servicing their clients. This included the development, provision, and implementation of e-invoicing technology solutions, prior to the statutory deadline. This required innovative ways of being involved in extensive UATs, filling in gaps on ERPs and billing systems, and develop innovative solutions to incorporate data that was received from a variety of OEMs and data management systems.

The firm also made innovative strides in the provision of tax technologies in order to facilitate the preparation of filing Indian Income-tax returns for client with both high volumes of outbound and residing employees. This involved a digital collaboration platform for engagement between the firm and their clients, which provided a consistent, accessible and secure centre for BDO’s advice.

BDO’s investment into innovating through technology has allowed the firm to stay ahead on major changes in the tax code. The firm has been able to stay ahead of needs with changes to dividend taxation with their new system, including having prescribed forms for non-resident shareholders.

A key step in innovation for the future of tax advice is in engagement with specialised technology that is user friendly and easily integrated through a firm’s various offerings, which BDO India has taken a solid lead on.

ITR Awards research lead John Harrison said: “We are delighted to be able to present the winners of the 11th annual ITR APAC Tax Awards. It is unfortunate that we must hot the awards virtually, however it is important to note that we have remained committed to recognising the achievements and top work in tax from across the region.

We have seen a great deal of strong and impactful work by tax practitioners this year – which is all the more impressive with having to adapt to new ways of working and helping clients throughout the pandemic. We believe it is of the utmost importance to highlight these achievements. We are hopeful that we will be able to celebrate with the nominees and winners in person next year.”
