Beyond Borders - October 2018

The Customs & International Trade (C&IT) Journal

BDO in India presents Beyond Borders - The Customs & International Trade Journal. The monthly issue of the C&IT journal will cover recent developments in the world of Customs & Foreign Trade in India, current global & technological trends and insights from eminent faces in the trade.

The last month has seen lot of action on the Customs and International Trade front, not only in India but also across the globe. Brexit talks are continuing and Customs Authorities in the UK as well as in the EU expect to have more clarity soon on the exact rules to be implemented from next year. India has increased Basic Customs Duty on a large number of consumer goods last month. This measure was undertaken to reign-in the galloping Current Account Deficit (CAD), more than granting any tariff protection to domestic industry per se and appears to be a temporary syndrome which is likely to be reversed as soon as the winds change direction.
