Cover story on The need of the hour to extricate India from the COVID-19 gloom

Several large developed regions had already began reducing their dependencies on China by imposing tariffs on Chinese goods and incentivising organisations to shift production bases out of China or back to their home countries. Considering the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is evident that organisations would plan to move their manufacturing base out of China. India, with the promise of a working democracy, large pool of talented manpower, abundance of natural resources and a trade friendly ecosystem, could largely benefit from this.  However, in order to take advantage of the situation, India would need to make changes in its economic policies, investment and trade climate, legislative and judicial system. The Indian economy, which was showing signs of a slowdown even before the COVID-19 outbreak, will certainly face few challenges before it can leverage the opportunities that would arise in the post pandemic era.
