‘Brexit’, an abbreviation for British exit, is the scheduled withdrawal of the United Kingdom (UK) from the European Union (EU). Since the referendum in 2016, Britain has been negotiating and planning the nation’s exit terms and deals in a post Brexit scenario. The exit date of UK from EU was initially fixed for 29 March 2019. However, the date of exit was postponed to 31 October 2019, in alignment with the subsequent decisions taken at the meeting of the European Council. The European Council is slated to meet mid-October 2019 to discuss the fate of Brexit, in addition to deliberate on a host of other issues pertaining to the European Council.
